Hello from the Dietz family!
We’re thrilled to share that our planting crews were absolutely amazing - especially considering the complexity of this year’s project. In addition to coordinating multiple locations, the team planted more than 10,700 tree seedlings!
In addition to that good news, we’ve been very pleased with the seedling’s survival rate so far due to frequent, measurable rainfall.
The tree species that were planted include white pine, red pine, jack pine, bur oak, red oak, white spruce, white cedar, sugar maple, paper birch, balsam fir, choke cherry, and wild plum. Four thousand trees were planted by machine; the remaining 6,700 were hand-planted by a crew.
Protective tree tubes were also manually placed on the maples and oak trees to not only act as tiny greenhouses, but also to guard against deer, rabbit, and mouse browse on the delicate seedlings. These tree tubes are held in place with stakes.
Now, we just pray for a nice summer with regular rain showers!
